Community resilience

What is community resilience?

We all face challenges in life. Resilience is our capacity to maintain our well-being through difficult or stressful times—and it’s dependent on the people and places around us. We need caring relationships with family, friends, and community members and safe, stable environments and equitable opportunities to live, play, and learn.

While resilience can be strengthened at any age, the best time to build the basis of resilience is during childhood.

Every child is born with extraordinary potential. Across Guelph and Wellington County, all adults have a shared responsibility—and opportunity—to promote this potential.

Community Resilience Coalition of Guelph & Wellington

Founded in 2017, the Community Resilience Coalition of Guelph & Wellington is a group of community partners working to promote resilience by fostering positive experiences for children and youth and preventing and reducing the effects of early adversity.

As part of its collective work, the Community Resilience Coalition offers multiple online training options that provide foundational knowledge to promote resilience across communities.

Toward Common Ground provides backbone support to the Community Resilience Coalition by coordinating collective efforts, facilitating communication, and promoting alignment toward shared goals.
